When envisioning what would become the BA Hanson profile barrels, it was imperative that we maintained the quality and accuracy you’ve come to expect from BA, while simultaneously challenging ourselves to make improvements where we could. Our goal was to intelligently design a barrel that left material only where you needed it, while ensuring there was still enough material at the chamber. Our vision came alive and we created a barrel that has a lightweight feel without the lightweight limitations. This was truly ideal for how an AR-15 was designed to perform.
Once the vision for the BA Hanson profile barrels became clear, the .750 line of barrels was born. You’ll notice the most distinctive feature is the lack of a right angle at the gas block journal of every BA Hanson barrel. As you transition from the journal to the muzzle, the barrel tapers down to a smaller outer diameter reducing the overall weight of the barrel. If you compare a traditional Midlength Government profile barrel next to the .750, you will be able to see and feel the difference. The first .750 BA Hanson options quickly earned respect across the industry and laid the foundation for future BA Hanson variations.
After years of successfully providing our customers with the traditional .750 BA Hanson barrel line, we decided to expand the Hanson benefits with an extra lightweight .625 BA Hanson series. Because it is a smaller version of the .750, it was crucial not to sacrifice too much material and risk having diminishing returns from an accuracy and durability standpoint. This challenge successfully resulted in the lightest version of the BA Hanson barrel.
When creating the shorter BA Hanson barrels we were met with the new challenge of maintaining the integrity of the lightweight Hanson profile while containing the pressure of the caliber and/or mitigating perceived recoil. We accomplished this by shifting a portion of the weight from the front end of the barrel to the back end which resulted in the weight being balanced in the center of the rifle. With 5.56 the additional weight on the backend helps contain the pressure of the caliber and mitigates perceived recoil. While pressure wasn’t a concern with .300 Blackout, the bore size is larger than 5.56 so it was still advantageous for us to shift a portion of the weight to the backend.
